Coorg

Recommended stay: 2–3 days

The Golden Temple at Namdroling Monastery near Kushalnagar in Coorg, seen through a flowering arch

Known locally as Kodagu, Coorg is India's coffee country and home to the Kodava community, whose distinct customs, martial traditions, and cuisine set the region apart from the rest of Karnataka.

Madikeri, the district headquarters, sits amid coffee and spice plantations in the Western Ghats, and the region's misty hills and waterfalls make it a particularly popular monsoon-season retreat.

How to reach Coorg

Nearest airport is Mangalore (~140km) or Bengaluru (~250km), both roughly 4–6 hours by road. Nearest railhead is Mysuru.
